Hey Kidz!

Happy New Year! As we welcome in a new year, I like to think about all of the new things

we welcome in with it. It’s a new start, a new us, a new adventure into 2017.

It’s kind of like a fresh, new snowfall in the yard that has, so far, been untouched. No

footprints. No paw prints. No shovel marks. Just clean, smooth snow that sparkles in the

sun. And we now have a new start to decide what to do with that clean, sparkly snow. We

can build a snowman, or a snow fort, or make snow angels, or snow balls. But, whatever

we do, we only get one chance to make something of that fresh snowfall before it is forever

changed.

What we do with this new year is also up to us. We only get one chance to start our year, to

set goals and make plans, to leave our mark on 2017. Have you thought about what you

hope for this year? Have you gone to God in prayer and asked him his plans for you in

2017? In the bible, the book of Jeremiah tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,”

declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a

future.”

God also promises us that he is always with us and he will never leave us as he unfolds

those plans, and with that promise comes an invitation – an invitation to come to him, to

trust in him, to let him do his work in us.

During the next several weeks in Kidz Church, we will be exploring and accepting God’s

invitations to us. We’ll talk about his invitation to cleanse our souls and welcome him into

our hearts. We’ll talk about his invitation to see how much he can do in our lives if we let

him, his invitation to follow him and his word, and to recognize the blessings he gives us

every day.

So, as we begin a new year, let’s begin with a clean heart as pure as that beautiful, sparkly,

new fallen snow. And let’s begin to build a new relationship with God in a way that

prepares us for a wonderful and prosperous 2017 filled with God’s special blessings

planned just for us.
